Does it work? Yes... BUT it drains batteries extremely fast. I put a fully charged 5ah 20v Max on it, and it lasted about 45 mins or less, since I have literally 12 or so batteries, I can work around this - still though, its a pain. Towards the end of the charge, it doesn't get to temp fast or enough, so really its maybe 30 mins on 5ah battery. As for me, I use this item only for short periods of time, so I can deal with this limitation. However, in retrospect, I wish I got a corded one. I still might.RECOMMENDATION: If you only need it for a short amount of time, like heat shrink wrap over wires or something real fast and short period of time... it will work and it is mobile b/c of the battery. HOWEVER, If you are going to use this heat gun for longer than 30 mins at a time and/or do not have A LOT of batteries charged and ready to go, then NO, I DO NOT recommend this device at all.One of the things I use a heat gun for more than anything is heat shrink on car wiring. Dragging out the heat gun and having to string a cord to it was always a pain when I had so many other cordless tools. Finally I have the heat gun to go with the rest now. Works great, and uses all the Dewalt batteries I already own. Highly recommend this heat gun for this application.Lets get this out of the way first...its a battery powered heat gun. If you are expecting hours of runtime that is just not happening here. Now, if you want something that is not fuel powered and you can take anywhere with you and have a runtime measured in minutes, this is for you.My need? I bought this primarily for heating adhesives for resetting logos on signs, zapping labels, heat shrink tubing, and the occasional frozen door lock. For all of those purposes it is AWESOME. It really does deliver on the heat, you just need to leave it run for a minute or two before you put it to work for best experience. That is not to say it doesn't heat up fast, it is - just not instant like plug-in styles. Now for the con - It does like to go through the batteries quickly. I have not measured it scientifically but it feels like <20min on a 6ah battery. Mind you this is probably closer to 30m as I run it a little before to warm up. If you can get beyond this fact, you will be really happy. Also - I need to get a 12ah flex volt to see how it goes.Quality is per usual - DeWalt. It is a plastic shell that fits together nicely and has a shape resembling a non-impact drill. While I enjoy how it handles, it didn't come with the clips so I can hang it off my belt. I assume somewhere a lawyer told them that would be a bad idea.If you found my review helpful, thank you.If you did not, let me know in the comments so I can fix it for next time. Thanks for reading my review.Be well,ChrisGets hot! Not melt your face off or anything. But it’s cordless and convenient. If you need load of heat get a large corded one. If you want something portable and useful for a few jobs and heat shrinking and stuff this works great. I already had batteries for dewault too so why not.I tried the Ryobi the ridgid and the Dewalt cordless heat gun. I use this to generally clean off stickers and shipping labels from packages, As well as from automobile windows and fenders. Also for shrink wrap I intended to use this for in place of a hair dryerThe Duvalt is the best of all of them I found basically because it has two settings high and low as well as a wide heat dissipator rather than a circular oneFrom what his product does it is absolutely fantastic however to not compare it to a standard hair dryer or plug-in heat gunYou would only want to use this for its portability and for the minimal heat output it provides for working generally with delicate itemsIt puts out great heat but not a lot of air flowThis heat gun eats battery power fastin a 3.0 amh. But it works very well. Just don't do it with any wind.I purchased this mainly for heat shrink tubing. Upon arrival I connected a battery and had it working immediately, no instructions necessary. Because it is battery operated the heat output isn't as great as others I have used that are plug in but it was enough to easily do the heat shrink. Maybe the only flaw is that it does not warm up as quick as a plug in but that really doesn't bother me.I bought it to shrink wrap tubing for wires, it works o.k. Anything more than that, I use my plug in one.Short battery life though.I tested this Dewalt heat gun against the milwaukee m18 heat gun. Sorry Dewalt. I love your tools but this one just didn’t compare. I tried it on multiple melting type products. The reason I bought this is because i actually use Dewalt for everything. Just didn’t put out the heat that it was designed to. 1/5 stars.Works great, used for heat shrink core ID'S within PLC.Brought 18v batteries separately and still produces required heat.It is not as powerful as a corded heat gun, but that has to expected. Therefore if you buy this, make sure you have the right job in mind. I use it for vinyl wrapping, wire heat-shrink, sticker and badge removal, and various odd-jobs. For those kind of thigs, this is really great. I use Makita tools only, and so I didn't have any DeWalt batteries or chargers. However, I bought an adapter here on Amazon and was able to use my Makita battery to power this, and that also works very well. I would happily recommend that approach to anyone in a similar situation.Really I should give this 5 stars because I have no issue with it at all, but I gave 4 just to highlight that it is not perfect, on the account that it cannot truly replace a corded heat gun, and buyers should be aware of this.I used this on a frozen lock and it worked great! Also I used it on an outdoor toilet to warm up seat for my butt lol! It also works good on equipment that’s outside in winter that are frozen as it doesn’t burn paint job but heats enough to melt ice, for this reason 5 stars as for other applications not sure.20V MAX Heat Gun BareI have mostly Dewalt tools so this is a nice addition since I already have batteries. Dewalt is reliable and their tool set just works. Durable as expected from Dewalt.Comes with two push-on heat diverters: one for specifically wire shrink application which shields the heat from anything other than the one wire. The other is for flat output. You obviously dont need to have the diverter installed. This tool comes with 2 settings HI and LO. This just alters the fan speed. The fan motor is a buzzy sound. This isnt a quiet heat gun but thats expected. The trigger is safety triggered, and is spring loaded so you need to keep the trigger pressed to work -- OR it also has a locking mechanism to keep it going for prolonged heat fun usage. The only thing i can complain about here is the price tag -- comes at a premium price for Dewalt but I just like that i can reuse my batteries for even more things now.As an aside: I use this tool with the FLAT diverter accessory in my pool liner repairs. When my liner comes off the track, you normally use hot water to make the liner stretchy and you snap it back on the track. But this is very tedious. Some folks have dangerously used a hair dryer plugged in -- but thats clearly not safe. With this tool, I get in the pool to heat up the liner with this heat gun and stretch. IT's fairly safe because if i drop the gun , the device turns off since the trigger is spring loaded.
