I'll probably wind up returning this...I live in Michigan where it's currently 28 frigid degrees and we currently have 14 MPH winds (gusts and wind chill make it far colder than 28 degrees). I have to spend quite a bit of time outside in the elements at all hours of the day and night, and my husband wanted to get me this jacket to wear under my heavy down coat for when it drops down to sub-zero temps outside. I wouldn't have picked this jacket for myself because I'm pretty skeptical about battery operated clothing; additionally, this is a very pricey item at $199. He was so excited about giving it to me when it arrived that I resolved myself to giving it a try no matter what my initial thoughts were. I've worn it a few times, and here's what I think so far:Pros: It heats up quickly, and is much warmer on high than I'd anticipated. The two heating zone on the front chest aren't especially warm, but the one on the back between the shoulder blades was hot (the heat felt awesome). That's it. That's all I have as a reason on why I'd keep this. This may prove to be enough for me to part with $200, but I'm doubting it because of what's to follow...Cons: This is the second jacket I've received within ten days. The first was given to me as a gift from my husband, and bless him, he ordered what is usually my size: a medium. He read the first review that shows here on Amazon for this jacket and took that as gospel. Despite what that one reviewer said, this runs small. Really small, IMO. I'm a true medium, my off-the-rack size is an 8, so when I opened the box, I didn't expect the medium to be as small as it is. This is not cut for a woman's figure - it's very straight and slim fitting through the shoulders and bust, so if you're wearing a push-up bra, are average or bigger in the bust, or have on anything thicker than a tank top, I'd expect this to be too small on you. Too small to be comfortable. The medium was far too tight through the shoulders to wear a sweater, sweatshirt, or heavier weight button down shirt. This is a jacket, not a shirt - so you'd think this would be designed to be worn over clothing. Nope. While I appreciate that you may want this to be a slim fit (it isn't, it's like a sausage casing), it is a jacket, and it doesn't have much give or stretch, so sizing should be adjusted at the manufacturer's level to accommodate this for an item that people who live in cold temperatures will find useful (I mentioned it can get pretty cold where I live - no one is walking around in just a tank top under their heated jacket). Additionally, this is really, really tight through the hips. My pants size is an 8, so a medium being that tight was really odd. There's no way you could comfortably wear this over flannel or fleece lined jeans, insulated pants, or Carhart (or other similar brands) of quilted bib overalls. (Before you judge me on that last statement - odds are that if you're buying a battery heated jacket, you live somewhere cold. Really cold. And you aren't going to just wear this jacket, all by itself, with nothing but a tank top on under it and just a pair of jeans or yoga pants). On top of all of that, the length of this jacket is REALLY long. In fact, it's so long that it goes all the way down, past your butt and hits into your upper thigh. While this wouldn't be as noticeable if the fit through the hips was normal, it's intensely exaggerated due to the length of the jacket. Again, if you're wearing anything thicker than yoga pants or regular weight jeans, or are a hippy woman (I'm not, and this was way too tight for me) - this is going to be an issue. The medium had to go back.I ordered a large, which took considerably longer to reach me than the medium. The large arrived today. The fit is slightly better. in the bust and shoulders. I'll have to try it on with a sweatshirt or polar fleece shirt under it. I expect it's going to be snug, and it still may be too snug to be comfortable, especially for extended or more active periods of time (if it doesn't stretch and give with moderate movement, it's going to have to go back.) The hips are still pretty snug. More snug than I'd like for sure, and wearing even the large with a pretty thin pair of Carharts may be a deal breaker. The Hubs got this for me to be warm and comfortable, and comfort is questionable enough here that I'm committing to trying this a time or two more before I completely make up my mind to send it back. The length of the jacket is a major issue, as it's at least four inches longer than my down jacket, which leaves this pricey item far too susceptible to getting dirty. Since it can't be laundered, this is problematic to say the least. Sitting is an issue due to the crazy long length, as it's so long that when you sit, the bottom 2-4 inches folds up (see picture) and points upwards, with the zipper poking out. I'm not sure who made the decision that it's better to have a waaay long coat to cover your caboose than it is to provide a functional piece of warm outdoor wear, but - this design needs some serious help from real women who have a practical use for this. EDITED TO ADD: This is so long that it completely covers and obstructs your pants pockets in front AND back. I usually keep my cell phone in my back pocket - no can do with this jacket. I now have to put it in the side pocket of my down coat if I want to attempt to wear this jacket and be able to access my phone (can't use the pockets of this jacket, as it's not warm/heavy enough to wear on it's own because anything not heated by battery power will get cold quickly, which also means there's no quick access to anything stored in the pockets of this jacket). ::sigh::The arms and pockets are not heated (NOTE: Sears has a version of what appears to be an almost identical version of this coat, but the pockets are heated - genius! I just saw it today by accident), nor are they insulated or lined enough to make it comparably warm enough to make this a true outdoor jacket. It's one of the reasons I just don't see anyone wearing this completely by itself in weather that's colder than 45-50 degrees, and even then, you'd want it big enough that you could wear a heavier shirt, sweatshirt, or sweater under it because your arms will be cold. The collar on this is about an inch and a half too tall, and it's so stiff and awkward that it's annoying. The coat is so tight that you can't really wear a scarf under it around your neck, and it's so annoying that you'll want to keep pushing it down. The fabric is too stiff, and it isn't lined with anything that is remotely comfortable or soft, so it may drive you insane. It's not made so you can button it down and out of the way. You're stuck with a very stiff, uncomfortable funnel neck that is going to make you long for a soft, comfy scarf. And if your favorite scarf is long enough that it's going to creep down into the bust area, you're not going to have room to wear the scarf under the coat, and the collar of the coat is going to make you wish for the scarf, so...The battery pack sits right on the front of your left hip, and impinges the fit in the waist and hip area, making it more restrictive than it already is. The shape of the battery is the biggest problem - if it were more to the side (like maybe having the option to stow it in the pocket area?), it wouldn't be so bad, but it sits right on the front of the hip bone, and compromises the fit further in an area that needs to be more generous than it is. The belt clip doesn't seem to be of any help, as the cord to the battery and the way it fits through the jacket truly limits where you can put it. I wouldn't use the belt clip to put it on my waist right above my hip bone for all of the reasons I've mentioned above. It's bigger than a roll of coins, and heavier (though I will say again that the heat on your back on the high setting feels pretty awesome. If this were in a waist length vest - or something more comfortable, stretchier, and wearer-friendly like a sweatshirt - I'd wear it a lot. A. LOT.)I'll update my review once I've made a final decision to keep this or send it back, and I'll tell you why I chose to do whatever it is I ultimately decide. The only reason I see myself keeping this is because that heat between my shoulder blades will make the rest of the compromises (and there are a lot of them!) worth it.
