Duh! I have 5 other Sunjoe lawn care products and a power washer. Why did I buy a Ryobi trimmer, knowing I would have constant line and spool problems? I didn't know Sunjoe made a battery operated trimmer! It's very light weight and easy to use. Took 90 seconds to put together out of the box. I prefer the plastic blade strips to any spool line. I wasted money and time trying to find a fixed line accessory for the Ryobi and it never worked out. Because I have other battery operated Sunjoe products I already had the battery for the trimmer. The price is great, a real bargain. Very happy with this trimmer. Recommend with 5 stars. Buy it! UPDATE JULY 2022: Still love this trimmer but here's one caution; Don't allow the trimmer head (disc) to come into contact with hard surfaces. Sounds like a no brainer but it happens often if you aren't careful. I warped the blade nub and then couldn't attach new plastic blades which normally go on easily. Called Sun Joe about getting a replacement disc. They don't manufacture or sell the part separately. They told me to return the entire trimmer to Amazon for free replacement. Ok, did that. I kept the old damaged disc thinking I might do a hack/workaround making it usable, in case I get careless again and damage the new one. This trimmer is not delicate, it's tough but this is one thing that should be avoided. I use a steel blade edger for edging, not the trimmer. Will use the old string trimmer near brick and concrete. Follow up September 2022: After only a couple of uses with this replacement trimmer (same model) I had the same problem with the plastic trimmer head hitting anything I got close to and warping the nub that holds the plastic blade. Once this happens you cannot remove the used blade or fit a new blade onto the nub. This is a basic design flaw. I would expect better from Sunjoe. I have mastered the string type trimmer and while it's still a chore to replace string it does the job well enough. Recommendation, don't buy this trimmer until Sunjoe improves the design. Note this was the only problem I had with it and Sunjoe does not manufacture the trimmer head separately as a replacement part. Instead they replaced the entire unit rather than offering a $3 replacement part. Not too smart y'all. Now only two stars.Company sent me a nrw battery!Battery is junk, won't hold a charge. The weed wacker is light weight plastic feels like a childs toy and the plastic blades constantly break.I didn't want the hassle of a string but the plastic blades are worse than a string! The battery won't hold a charge and getting a replacement from the company is difficult to say the least. On top of all that,I now have a new weed wacker that I can't use because of the battery.Love this, game changer for my yard. Had to return the first one. I, did not assemble correctly and no trouble shooting when called customer service. Second one love, but screw holding plate fell off. Reattached (lost original screw) and working again.Had to take frequent breaks because it smokes. Still works after it cools down. Oh, also a burning plastic smell. It is a workhorse for the money, but needs frequent breaks. Perfect for those of us who are intimidated by awkward, heavy, potentially digit liberating tools, especially if you are ok with smoking. The blade mount and blade of the weed wacker broke off the unit after the second use. The manufacturer offered a replacement unit without challenge. Before breaking, it surprisingly went through some pretty tall grass, was lightweight and the blade was relatively easy to replace.Fully charged it up for first use; now on 4th use and still charged. The cutting blade is nice and strong, it doesn't break easily like the string trimmers. Light and easy to use.Revised: I added one star. I found the trick to trimming against hard surfaces is to avoid trimming head on. Instead, trim at a 90 degree angle and let the housing touch the hard surface rather than throw plastic blade.I have several SunJoe/SnowJoe products do I can interchange batteries. Overall I am happy with all of them. This trimmer is OK but I broke 3 blades in the first 5 minutes of use. It is definitely not good for trimming against hard surfaces like fences, trees, border stones, etc.Used several times. Wish I could return it. Very weak you have to change the blades constantly. If you’re looking for a weedeater or an edger by something else.I have a few of the joe machines that are great. I was hoping this one would follow in the other's footsteps. I was so disappointed. The blades break very easily. I have a very small yard with nothing that would cause the blades to break. I went through 4 in a length of 12 feet. This is not worth the money spent. I had to go out and purchase another weed wacker just to get the job done.well i havent covered the weedeating on my property and have used all the grass blades as well as already broke the big super blade. I go to order grass blades pak of 20 and out of stock...what????? The big blade is $51 fpr 3 sp I SHOULDA JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER COMPANY'S CORDLESS WEED TRIMMER WITH ORDINARY STRING SPOOLS, THAT ARE READILY AVAILABLE!!!!!!! So i could pay for another cordless trimmer, for just the price of the frustrating blades that do not last, to cover once around my property let alone enough to trim the yard all summer and through fall !!!!! To be fair i am an older female, so handling this trimmer is difficult compared to the old string trimmers i used to have. Now i have nothing to do my yard with after less than once over property, grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Not happy at all!!! Who sells a product needed in summer but has no blades available???? Terrible waste of my money that i cannot afford to waste!!!!!It's a borderline scam. First you buy the machine at $120-150, it comes with one big blade which will last you, if you're lucky, one use before it explodes into pieces. It also comes with a limited supply of smaller grass cutting blades which seem to last a more acceptable amount of time. Then when you go to order more you will realize they are ridiculously expensive for what they are and how severely defective give they are (that is if they aren't out of stock, which happens really frequently). I did order a 3 pack of the bigger blade but upon first use I lightly contacted the ground and it exploded and the smaller blades are never in stock in Canada but I wouldn't pay the price they ask for them anyway. The only way I can continue using the machine is with the cheap red knockoffs sold in Amazon for another brand, they are a bit loose but they are somewhat usable. If sun Joe sold a string head attachment for a reasonable price, I might be interested, that way I wouldn't have to rely on their extremely cheap and fragile blades.I have a snow joe snow blower and love it so much that I thought I'd give the sun joe a try. It worked well at the start. I've used single phase string edgers at work and those were heavy to lug around and a pain to re-string. After a season, the honeymoon with this sun joe is over. The blade system is fine for grass and some soil, but it evaporates when edging against brick and stone like driveways and sidewalks (there goes $20 in 15 min). The battery is fine for a nice 15 min run and battery life has lasted the season, but anything longer needs another battery pack and a quick charger. The biggest issue is the design of the motor head. The head is designed just right to catch grass and wrap around the motor as it spins. Overtime this causes friction to build up and tax the motor. No only does it cause battery drain and the blade to spin slower, the sun joe vibrates so badly that 5 min makes it feel like I'm carrying 100lbs. This wouldn't be an issue if you could clean it easy or, like professional edgers, separate the head from the motor to clean around. I can't see this sun joe lasting very long and adding to a pike of electronic waste because of poor design choices.Blades break if you LOOK at them too hard. And you CAN'T buy MORE, so when I've gone through all 11 blades (which will take less than 11 minutes), I'm chucking the whole business in the garbage. The ONLY reason I haven't returned this piece of carp is because it would cost an arm and a leg to ship it back --- and right now, I WISH I'd bought it from a store, so I could take it back and YELL at somebody!!!!!!!lightweight but the safety cover does not stay on. no battery was included. kept only because i have a device that uses batteries which can be used in this one.
